TEMPO Interactive, Jayapura:The 2010 Sustainable Forest Operation (OHL) in Papua and West Papua Police have managed to confiscate illegal logs after a week of scouring the Mayapo River in Teluk Bintuni regency.
OHL team member for West Papua, Comm. Paulus Waterpauw, said the logs consisted of 2.175 cubic meter of merbau wood and 3.124 cubic meter of mixed kinds of logs. “The logs were to be taken to Surabaya by a boat. We confiscated them because they did not have legal documents,” he told reporters yesterday.
Waterpauw said the logs may have belonged to a PT WG and PT N, which have been operating since 1992 in West Papua. “They have the concession or the right to manage forest units, but they failed to present proper documents,” he said. (CUNDING LEVI)
